Injured Wildlife
The Township of Essa does not remove wildlife from private property. Pests such as raccoons, skunks, foxes and any other wild animal found on private property should be removed with the assistance of a pest control specialist or a Wildlife Rehabilitator.
The Township of Essa strongly discourages feeding wildlife such as raccoons, skunks, foxes etc. Native wildlife need nature's diet to be healthy. Feeding wildlife can lead to wildlife becoming aggressive towards people and pets.
If you find wildlife that you suspect is injured, you can contact Procyon Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre at 905-729-0033.
If residents find a sick or injured wild animal on private property, it is the property owner's responsibility to have the animal removed. When a wild animal is found on private property, do not confine the animal unless directed by a authorized wildlife rehabilitator to do so.
For further assistance with wildlife please visit Ministry of Natural Resources.
To get help for a sick, injured or abandoned wild animal, you can contact:
- an authorized wildlife rehabilitator
- your local Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry District Office
Wild animals can be dangerous and should be avoided, however if you or your pet has come into contact with a wild animal that you suspect has rabies please seek medical attention and contact the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit at (705) 721-7520.
