Employment Opportunity: Loader/Truck Driver

The Township of Essa is a dynamic and growing municipality with a current population of approximately 23,500, located in the County of Simcoe and southwest of the City of Barrie. The Township is currently seeking individuals to fill the requirements of Loader/Truck Driver positions.

Reporting to the Roads Supervisor, the Loader/Truck Driver is responsible for the operation of loader, motor grader, gradall, dozer, Hy-hoe excavator, tractor backhoe, tandem trucks, sidewalk plow and other heavy equipment from time to time to provide a variety of construction, snow/ice removal, maintenance and repair services to roads and property for the safety and convenience of the public. It is expected to be on-call during “winter” season and stand-by during “summer” season.

Key Qualifications:

  • A valid Ontario Class D or higher driver’s license with air brake endorsement in good standing (DZ).
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience operating combination plow/sanders on a public highway system.
  • Experience operating front-end loaders, tractor backhoe, gradall, dozers, motor grader and trackless sidewalk plough.
  • Experience with other related equipment (i.e., brush chippers, chainsaws, small hand tools, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Knowledge of The Highway Traffic Act.
  • Ability to perform labour-intensive tasks including ability to lift 50 lbs (23kg).

This is a full-time position involving 40 hours per week which includes various shifts (days, evenings, weekends). Hourly wage range is $26.33 - $30.987 (2024). The Township of Essa offers excellent benefits and a competitive compensation package.
